Niels Klein, born in 1978 in Hamburg, Germany, is a jazz musician, saxophonist, and composer. He began playing saxophone at age thirteen and studied at Musikhochschule Köln from 1998 under Frank Gratkowski and Claudio Puntin. Klein's early career included being a soloist and composer for the Federal Jazz Orchestra (BuJazzO) from 1998 to 2000, winning the Jazzpodium Niedersachsen prize in 2000 with his Niels Klein Oktett. From 2001 to 2009, he was a member of Heavytones, accompanying artists like Lionel Richie and Michael Bublé on their 2006 album Heavytones. Notable works include Loom (2017). Klein has collaborated with numerous artists, including Toots Thielemans and Jeff Hamilton. He has been a professor of jazz saxophone at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln since 2016.
