Natalie Cressman, an American jazz trombonist and vocalist, was born in San Francisco. She began performing with Afro Cuban, Brazilian, and jazz bands during her early teens. Cressman graduated from San Francisco's Ruth Asawa School of the Arts and moved to New York City at 18 to attend the Manhattan School of Music. Cressman released her debut album Turn the Sea in 2014. Subsequent releases include The Traces EP (2017) and Setting Rays of Summer (2019) with Ian Faquini. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with various artists including Trey Anastasio Band, Nicholas Payton's Television Symphony Orchestra, Peter Apfelbaumâs New York Hieroglyphics Ensemble, Dumpstaphunk, and Lettuce.
