Myriam Alter, born on September 26, 1945 in Brussels, Belgium, is a jazz pianist and composer. She began classical piano training at age eight but paused her musical pursuits at 15 to study psychology at the Université Libre de Bruxelles. After working in advertising and running a dance studio, Alter returned to music at 36, forming her own band with Ben Sluijs, Gino Lattuca, Michel Benita, and Jan de Haas. Their debut album Reminiscence was released in 1994. Alter's international breakthrough came with the release of Alter Ego in 1999. Subsequent albums include If (2002), featuring compositions from the Tango Nuevo genre, and Where Is There (2007), which showcased Brazilian influences. In 2015, she released Cross / Ways, and in 2020, It Takes Two.
