Biography

Ranky Tanky, an American musical group from Charleston, South Carolina, was formed in 2016. The ensemble specializes in jazz-influenced arrangements of traditional Gullah music and consists of Quentin E. Baxter on drums, Kevin Hamilton on bass, Quiana Parler as lead vocalist, Clay Ross on guitar and vocals, and Charlton Singleton on trumpet and vocals. Their debut album, Ranky Tanky, was released in October 2017 and reached Number 1 on the Billboard jazz charts for the week of February 10, 2018, holding that position for two weeks. In 2020, Ranky Tanky won their first Grammy Award for Best Regional Roots Music Album for Good Time. They secured a second Grammy in the same category in 2023 for Live at the 2022 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
