Biography
A progressive metal band with an international reputation, Myrath is unique in being made up of Tunisian musicians. Formed in 2001 by guitarist Malek Ben Arbia, the band's lead singer was Tarek Idouani, and it called itself X-Tazy, before welcoming keyboardist and singer Elyes Bouchoucha in 2003, who will remain with the band until 2020. In 2005, the Double Face EP was confidentially distributed in Tunisia, attracting the attention of French label Bremmis Music. The band, renamed Myrath, worked with producer Kevin Codfert to record their debut album Hope (2007), before recruiting Zaher Zorgati as their new vocalist, who brings Arab-inspired vocal inflections to the band's metal style. Building on their originality, Myrath record the albums Desert Call (2010) and Tales of the Sands (2011), released on XIII Bis Records. In 2012, drummer Morgan Berthet left the band Eths to join Myrath, taking part in the European festival tour and then the first American concert, at ProgPower USA, in Atlanta, in 2013. After signing with the Verycords label, Myrath recorded the studio album Legacy (2016) and returned to Tunisia the following year to perform a concert at the historic site of the Théâtre de Carthage, resulting in the live album Live in Carthage (2020). Myrath's fifth studio album, Shehili was previously released on the new earMusic label in March 2019. Myrath then tours with Dutch band Epica, who invite Zaher Zorgati on the album Omega (2021). In 2022, without Elyes Bouchoucha but with session keyboardist Kevin Codfert fully admitted to the band, Myrath prepares to record the album Karma, released in 2024 and ranked 160th in France. Two years later, the quintet returned with Wilderness of Mirrors.
