Biography

Montanara Chor is a German male choir specializing in traditional folk music and international folklore. The choir was formed in 1958 following an impromptu performance at a birthday party for Franz Biehler. Their first recordings, "La Montanara" and "Jenseits des Tales", became significant hits. Directed initially by Hermann Josef Dahmen, Walter Höfling, and Heinz Buchhold in the 1960s, the choir gained prominence for its high-quality performances. Harry Pleva took over in 1972, expanding their repertoire to include classical music and international folklore. Under Pleva's direction, Montanara Chor released numerous albums such as Ich Bete An Die Macht Der Liebe (1978) and performed internationally. The choir has received several accolades, including the Hermann-Löns-Medaille in 1977.
