Biography

The Barbara Furtuna polyphonic ensemble, originally from the Nebbiu region in northern Corsica, takes its name from a traditional local tune. It was founded in the early 2000s on the initiative of singers Jean-Pierre Marchetti, André Dominici, Jean-Philippe Guissani and Maxime Merlandi (ex-A Filetta). After two traditional albums sung in Corsican, a cappella or with orchestration, Adasgiu (2004) and In Santa Pace (2008), the Isle of Beauty quartet collaborated with Christina Pluhar's baroque ensemble L'Arpeggiata on the Via Crucis project (2010), linking different eras and traditions around songs from the Passion of Christ. Three years later, Si Vita Si is released, surrounded by concerts around the world and other performances with tenor Placido Domingo and Belgium's Duo Belem. In 2016, Barbara Furtuna's fourth album, D'Anima, is distributed more widely by the Decca label.
