Biography

Monica Morell, born Monica Wirtz-Römer on August 6, 1953, in Menziken, Switzerland, was a singer known for her contributions to pop and schlager music. Her breakthrough came in the early 1970s with the release of "Ich fange nie mehr was an einem Sonntag an", which spent months in the Swiss and German charts. The song's success was followed by other notable hits such as "Bitte glaub’ es nicht" in 1973, which reached number 5 in Germany, and "Später, wann ist das?" in 1974. Monica Morell's music often featured melancholic themes, with songs like "Danny, mein Freund" (1975) and "Hallo, ist denn hier keiner" (1976) becoming popular among audiences. She made several appearances on television shows such as Disco and the ZDF-Hitparade. By 1976, Monica Morell had consistently placed in the Top 50 of the German sales charts. After retiring from music at the end of the 1970s, she became a hotelier and later co-owned an auction house. Monica Morell passed away on February 12, 2008, in Zurich, leaving behind a significant musical legacy.
