José "Monguito" SantamarÃa was a Cuban pianist. He was the son of the conguero Mongo SantamarÃa. Monguito began his music career with the release of his first album, On Top, in 1968. His musical style encompassed soul, jazz, and salsa, and his band was known for its boogaloo sound, similar to that of his father's. In a span of seven years, Monguito released several albums, including Hey Sister (1969), Blackout (1970), and En Una Nota! (1974). Notable singles from these albums include "Juicy / Soiron Cano" (1968) and "Sueño Contigo" (1970).
