Biography

Modern Folk ÃÃ§lÃ¼sÃ¼ are a Turkish music trio formed in July 1969. The ensemble was founded by DoÄan Canku, Ahmet Kurtaran, and Selami Karaibrahimgil and is recognized for blending Turkish folklore with modern arrangements. They achieved professional recognition accompanying Esin AfÅar on the track âBebekâ (1969) before producing their own records in 1970, including the singles âDeriko & Ali PaÅa AÄÄ±dÄ±â (1970) and âSarhoÅ OÄlan & Leblebiâ (1970). The trio participated in the Seoul Music competition in 1978 and attempted to represent Turkey in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1978 and 1981. They achieved first place in the 1981 national final with AyÅegÃ¼l AldinÃ§ and represented Turkey in Dublin with the track âDÃ¶nme Dolapâ (1981), sharing eighteenth place. Their recording career includes the studio albums Ä°stanbul ÅarkÄ±larÄ± (1996) and Bizimtepe Konseri (2001). Karaibrahimgil died on 28 December 2024.
