Biography
Miklós Spányi is a Hungarian harpsichordist, organist, and educator born on 2 May 1962 in Budapest. He studied at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music before continuing his training with Jos van Immerseel in Antwerp and Hedwig Bilgram in Munich. Spányi achieved international recognition by winning first prize at the International Harpsichord Competition in Nantes in 1984 and another competition in Paris in 1987. A leading expert on the music of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, he embarked on a massive project for BIS Records to record the composer's complete keyboard works, issuing over forty CDs. This includes a series of twenty CDs dedicated to keyboard concertos, completed in 2014. Spányi is also recognized for his work reviving the clavichord and the tangent piano, notably through the Tangent Piano Collection on Hungaroton. He founded the ensemble Concerto Armónico and has led the groups Opus X and Mimage. Spányi has taught at several academies, including the Royal Conservatory of Amsterdam.
