Biography

Mike DiRubbo, born July 25, 1970, in New Haven, Connecticut, is an American alto and soprano saxophonist, bandleader, composer, and educator. He started playing clarinet in the 4th grade, later switching to alto saxophone under Jackie McLean's guidance. DiRubbo graduated from the Hartt School with a Bachelor of Music in 1992. His debut album as a leader, From the Inside Out, was released in 1999. Throughout his career, he collaborated extensively with Steve Davis and other notable musicians, releasing albums such as Keep Steppin' (2001) and Human Spirit (2003). In the 2010s, DiRubbo continued performing regularly as a sideman and released several albums under his own label, Ksanti Records. His album Inner Light, released in 2023, reached number 35 on the JazzWeek chart.
