Biography

Mietta, born Daniela Miglietta in Taranto on November 12, 1969, is an Italian singer, actress, and writer whose powerful soprano voice and genre-defying career have made her a fixture in Italian music and television for over three decades. She rose to fame in 1989 after winning the Newcomers’ category at the Sanremo Festival with the song "Canzoni," followed by a breakout hit in 1990 with Amedeo Minghi on "Vattene amore," which earned multiple platinum certifications and remains one of Italy’s most beloved pop duets. Her early albums—Canzoni (1990), Volano le pagine (1991), and Lasciamoci respirare (1992)—cemented her status, blending pop with sophisticated arrangements and contributions from leading Italian songwriters like Biagio Antonacci and Mariella Nava. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, she explored funk, R&B, and electro-pop with albums like Cambia pelle, Daniela è felice, and Per esempio… per amore, while also collaborating with Riccardo Cocciante, Mango, and Renato Zero. Alongside her musical evolution, Mietta built a parallel career in acting, voice acting (notably as Esmeralda in Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame), and writing. She continued to innovate with jazz projects like 74100 (2006) and performances with the Marea duo, while maintaining visibility through TV shows like All Together Now, Tale e Quale Show, and Io Canto. Due Soli..., her eleventh album, came out in 2011 and peaked at number 42 on the Italian albums chart.
