Biography
Michael James Thomas, born on February 7, 1960 in Yallourn, Australia, is a singer-songwriter and guitarist. He started playing folk music at age 15 and later joined Never Never Band, which released an independent single "It Doesn't Mean Anything" in 1980. In late 1984, Thomas formed Weddings Parties Anything with former bandmate David Adams. The group's debut EP Weddings Parties Anything included early classics like "Summons in the Morning" and "Roaring Days", both written by Thomas. Their first studio album, Scorn of the Women, reached number 52 on the Australian Kent Music Report Albums Chart in April 1987. The band won four ARIA Music Awards, including Best New Talent in 1988 and Song of the Year for "Father's Day" in 1993. After disbanding in December 1998, Thomas pursued a solo career, releasing Under Starter's Orders: Live at the Continental in 1998.
