Wolfgang Michels, born on July 15, 1951, in Delmenhorst, Germany, was a musician, singer, guitarist, composer, lyricist, producer, and singer-songwriter. He started his career in 1966, performing original songs as the opening act for German Bonds. In 1967, Alexis Korner discovered Michels after hearing his band's English-language song "Desert Walker" on BBC Radio. This led to Michels' first LP with Percewoodâs Onagram, a band he founded in 1969. After four albums and the group's disbandment in 1974, Michels embarked on a solo career. His album Full Moon California Sunset (1977), recorded in San Mateo, California, in October 1976, won him the German Record Award. In 1978, he released New Wave Dropouts, followed by Crazy Enough (1979). He also collaborated with Rio Reiser and other notable artists. Subsequent albums include Irgendwas stimmt hier nicht (1981) and Keine Probleme (1983). Michels passed away on September 14, 2017, in Hamburg.
