Raised in New York and singing in church from the age of four, Michelle David forged her voice and style in gospel. By the age of five, she was already performing with The Mission of Love, and her career has since taken her all over the world with musicals such as Mama, The Sound of Motown, Glory of Gospel and Mahalia. Her powerful, dynamic voice also takes her into the studio, where she works as a backing vocalist for such greats as Diana Ross and Michael Bolton. Based for a time in the Netherlands, Michelle David sings with the group Big Black & Beautiful, alongside Roq-E Harrell and Lucretia van der Vloot. The group, formed in 2002, recorded the album Big Black & Beautiful XL, released in 2008. After this experience, the singer formed Michelle David & the Gospel Sessions, which recorded four gospel albums between 2015 and 2020. With the same musicians, guitarists and bassists Paul Willemsen and Onno Smit plus drummer Bas Bouma, the group renamed itself Michelle David & the True-Tones and recorded the albums Truth & Soul (2022), With Strings (2023) and Brothers & Sisters (2024). In 2025, the singles "Speak to Me", which reached No. 66 in the UK Physical Singles Sales chart, and "Running" were released.
