Michel Roques (Michel André Guy Roques), born 15â¯Aprilâ¯1936 in Toulouse, France, was a tenor saxophonist, clarinettist and flautist who taught himself jazz after losing sight at age fifteen. Inâ¯1960, he moved to Paris, becoming a sideman for Claude Guilhot, Dominique Chanson and Georges Arvanitas. He released Jazz on Bach inâ¯1965 with René Urtreger, Jacques Thollot and Michel Gaudry, and formed a trio inâ¯1966 who released seven albums, including Safari, which earned him the Prix Django Reinhardt and a Solistenpreis at the Montreux Jazz Festival inâ¯1969. The trio performed at Paris venues and toured Europe. In the 1980s, he returned to Toulouse for duo work with Siegfriedâ¯Kessler and Rogerâ¯Guérin. Michel Roques diedâ¯on 29â¯Marchâ¯2007 in Orsay.
