Biography

Michael Cavanagh was born on 5 July 1990 in New South Wales, Australia, and grew up in Deniliquin where he began playing drums early. He joined the local band The Houses in 2005 and, after an audition in 2010, became the dedicated drummer for King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, a role he maintained after Eric Moore’s departure in 2020. Michael Cavanagh released his solo debut CAVS on 9 July 2021 under PHC Films, accompanied by the single "Gun Point" in August 2021, and followed with the second solo album Sojourn on 24 April 2026 through p(doom) Records, featuring collaborations with Melbourne musicians and a lead single "Candiru". His work with King Gizzard contributed to the band’s extensive live and recorded catalogue, while his solo projects showcase his rhythmic expertise.
