Biography
Electronic / progressive house producer and DJ Michaël Brun was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti on May 19, 1992. Interested in music at a young age thanks to his father, who was a musician, Michaël Brun learned to play piano, violin, and guitar. Initially, he attended school in Indiana and North Carolina with the goal of becoming a pediatrician. At the same time, he dabbled in electronic music as a hobby. One of the first electronic music artists from Haiti, he issued his first single, âShades of Greyâ, in June 2011, which was then followed by âDawnâ at the end of the year. After the release of his 2012 single âRiseâ and an invitation to perform at Southern California music festival Coachella, he abandoned medical studies and focused on music as a career. By 2013, his gamble paid off and his Gravity EP was a success, which led to him remixing tracks for Alicia Keys, Armin Van Buuren, and Calvin Harris. His success led to him being nominated for Best EDM Artist at the World Music Awards in 2014, the same year that he set up his own label, Kid Coconut. He spent 2015 playing high profile live shows as well as releasing singles such as âWooâ (with Dirty Twist), âTongue Tied Julyâ (with Roy English), and âCheck This Outâ (with Still Young). He continued his busy schedule in 2016 by participating in a charity single, âWherever I Go,â as part of a collective called Artists for Peace and Justice, as well as mixing The Ready Setâs Top 40 hit âGood Enough.â He then composed the track âAll I Ever Wantedâ for the film XOXO (2016) and remixed tracks by Major Lazer, OneRepublic, Kesha, Maxwell, and others. His collaboration with J. Balvin, âPositivoâ (2018), was used as the theme song to the FIFA World Cup held in Russia in 2018. Michaël Brun released his debut album, Lokal, in 2019. The afrobeat-influenced album included musical assistance from Major Lazer, Eddy François, BélO, and Arcade Fireâs Win Butler and Régine Chassagne. He signed with the Astralwerks label in 2022 and released the singles âCluelessâ (with Oxlade) and âComing Your Wayâ (with Anne-Marie and Becky G) the following year.
