Michaël Attias, born August 4, 1968, in Haifa, Israel, is an Israeli-American jazz saxophonist and composer. He began exploring jazz at age 15, inspired by Nat Hentoffâs jazz writing and Ornette Colemanâs album The Shape of Jazz to Come. He studied with Alan Silva in Paris and later at Wesleyan University under Anthony Braxton. Attias released his debut album, Credo, in 2005 featuring Igal Foni, Chris Lightcap, and Reut Regev. During the 2000s, he collaborated with artists including Paul Motian, Terumasa Hino, and Masabumi Kikuchi. He also led the trio Renku with John Hébert and Satoshi Takeishi, which was later expanded to include Russ Lossing and Tony Malaby, resulting in the album Twines of Cohesion (2010).
