Biography

Founded in São Paulo, Brazil in 2008, Metá Metá is a trio composed of Juçara Marçal (vocals), Kiko Dinucci (guitar) and Thiago França (saxophone). The band mixes punk, jazz, samba, Afrobeat and candomblé, creating a unique and riveting sound that reveals their musical roots while also taking the music in new and exciting direction. They are considered one of the finest modern Brazilian bands on the music scene. Metá Metá released their self-titled debut in 2011, followed a year later by Metal Metal (2012). This sophomore album received critical acclaim and earned the band international attention. In 2013, they released the EP Alakorô, which featured legendary Nigerian drummer Tony Allen. Metá Metá issued their third album, MM3, in 2016. Rolling Stone Magazine (Brazil) voted the album as one of the year’s 10 best albums and it was nominated for a Latin Grammy in 2017. The group wrote and performed the music for Gira (2017), a performance show presented by dance troupe Grupo Corpo.
