Biography
Max Kaminsky, born on September 7, 1908 in Brockton, Massachusetts, was an American jazz trumpeter and bandleader. He started his career in Boston in 1924, moving to Chicago by 1928 to work with George Wettling and Frank Teschemacher. In 1929, he performed briefly in New York with Red Nichols and was known for his work in the Dixieland idiom. From 1933 to 1938, Kaminsky played in dance bands and recorded with Eddie Condon and Benny Carter's Chocolate Dandies. He collaborated with notable figures such as Tommy Dorsey, Artie Shaw, Bud Freeman, Sidney Bechet, and Jack Teagarden. His style, influenced by King Oliver, Freddy Keppard, and Louis Armstrong, is showcased on albums like Dixieland Clambake (1951) and Ambassador Of Jazz (1954). Kaminsky died on September 6, 1994.
