Mattia Battistini, born on February 27, 1856 in Rome, Italy, was an Italian operatic baritone. He made his operatic debut as Alfonso in La favorita at Teatro Argentina in Rome in 1878. Battistini toured Italy extensively and performed at major venues including Covent Garden in London, the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, and La Scala in Milan. From 1892 onwards, he became a favorite at Russia's imperial theatres, performing for 23 seasons. After World War I, his career was confined to Western Europe due to political changes in Russia. He passed away on November 8, 1928.
