Biography

Banda Maguey, a Mexican music group from Villa Corona, Jalisco, was formed in 1991 by Fernando Guardado. The band's lineup solidified with the addition of Ernesto Solano as vocalist and composer. In 1994, their breakthrough came with the single "El alacrán", which topped charts in Mexico and the United States. This success led to the release of their debut album Tumbando Caña under MCM Records. The band later signed with Fonovisa and released albums such as La Estrella De Los Bailes (1995) and Tu Eterno Enamorado (1996), both featuring hit singles like "Si tu no estás" and "Pero te amo". In 1998, they joined BMG Records and released Lágrimas de Sangre, which included the popular track "Quiero volver". Despite lineup changes, including Solano's departure in 2006 and subsequent legal disputes over the band's name, Banda Maguey continued to release albums such as Para Que No Me Olvides (2009) and Lo Que Son las Cosas (2012). In the 2020s, their catalog remained visible through new compilations and refreshed collections, and they also returned with new-era material such as the EP La Nueva Era de la Quebradita (2025), keeping their classic technobanda identity tied to the bailes circuit.
