Biography

The Mary Jane Girls, an American girl group from the United States of America, were formed in 1979. The group consisted of Joanne "JoJo" McDuffie, Cheryl Ann "Cheri" Bailey, Candice "Candi" Ghant, Kimberly "Maxi" Wuletich, and Yvette "Corvette" Marine. They were protÃ©gÃ©es of musician Rick James and began their career as part of his backing band, the Stone City Band. The group's breakthrough came in 1983 when they signed with Motown Records and released their debut album Mary Jane Girls. This album featured hits such as "Candy Man", "All Night Long" (which was later included in the soundtrack of the 2002 video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City), and "Boys". Their second album, Only Four You, released in February 1985, included their biggest hit "In My House", which reached number 3 on the R&B chart and number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100. The group disbanded in 1987 but was inducted into the Rhythm & Blues Music Hall of Fame in 2019. A third album, Conversation, recorded during their active years, was shelved for decades and finally released in 2014 as part of a larger retrospective of James's work.
