Martin Ronald Winch, born on February 28, 1949 in Nottingham, England, was a guitarist and composer who immigrated to New Zealand in 1963. His career took off in the late 1970s with bands like the 1860 Band and The Rodger Fox Big Band. Winch became a notable figure in New Zealand's music scene, collaborating with international artists. His most famous album, Espresso Guitar (1998), sold over 80,000 copies in New Zealand alone and topped the charts for several weeks. In recognition of his contributions, the New Zealand Herald in 1999 named as him one of the Top 10 guitarists that New Zealand has ever produced. Winch passed away on May 21, 2011, at the age of 62.
