Biography

Mariko Nagai (born December 4, 1966 in Gotemba City, Shizuoka Prefecture) is a Japanese singer-songwriter who gained popularity in the late 1980s and 1990s for her powerful vocals based on girl pop, new music, and pop rock. She made her debut in 1987 with the single "Oh, Moonlight, " and gained attention the following year with "Brand-New Way" and "Lonelyisaurus" (1988). Her best-known songs include "Miracle Girl" (1989), "Zutto" (1990), and "WASH YOUR HEART" (1990), while her albums include "Good Mood" (1990), "Catch Ball" (1989), and "Washingtonia" (1991). In 1990, she became the first female solo singer to successfully perform at Yokohama Stadium, and won the Best Album Award at the 32nd Japan Record Awards.
