Maria Christina Kvist, known professionally as Maria Kvist, was born on August 19, 1971, in Ede, Kälarne, Jämtland, Sweden. She is a pianist and jazz musician who studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston and the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm. Kvist's early career involved playing with pop-jazz groups such as Blå Kongo before forming her own Maria Kvist Trio/Quartet in 2008.
Kvist released several albums, including Lemon Man (2010) under Wime Records and Superficial (2013) under Wela/Plugged. She has collaborated with notable artists such as Ellman Larsson Constellation, Simon Stålspets Orkester, and Cecilia Wennerström on the album Lydian Mars. In 2001, Kvist received the STIM Composition Scholarship, and in 2012, she was awarded the SKAP Composition Prize. Her Maria Kvist Quartet was nominated for the Jazzkatten award by Sveriges Radio P2 as "Band of the Year" in 2019.
