María del Monte Tejado Algaba, known professionally as María del Monte, was born on April 26, 1962, in Seville, Spain. She is a singer of sevillanas and Spanish song, as well as a radio and television presenter. Her breakthrough came after winning the televised contest Gente joven in 1982, leading to her first album, Te amaré como tú, released in 1985. María del Monte's second album, Cántame sevillanas, became an immediate success, earning her 13 platinum discs and establishing her as a prominent figure in the Spanish music scene. María del Monte's most popular song, "Cántame," which speaks about the journey to El Rocío, significantly boosted her popularity in Spain. Throughout her career, she has received numerous accolades, including 20 platinum discs for various albums and the Medalla de Andalucía in 2025.
