Margareta Pâslaru is a Romanian-American singer, composer, and actress who was born in Bucharest, Romania, in 1943. She achieved early professional recognition in 1958 and is famous for a prolific career in the pop and easy listening genres and for her humanitarian work with UNICEF. Her discography includes the single "Chemarea mÄrii" (1960) and the eponymous studio recording Margareta Pîslaru (1968). Two of her songs, "Cum e oare" and "Chemarea mÄrii", were featured in the film The Death of Mr. Lazarescu (2005). For her contributions to culture, Pâslaru was awarded the Order of the Crown of Romania (2013) and received the Lifetime Award of Excellence from the Union of Authors and Film Producers (2016).
