Marcus Wyatt, born 1971 in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, is a trumpeter and composer. Introduced to music through his father's involvement with the local folk club, Wyatt began playing the trumpet at eleven and studied classical music. He was called up for National Service with the South African Defence Forceâs Naval Band, where he developed a love for jazz. Wyatt furthered his studies at the University of Cape Town's College of Music. Wyatt spent 2001 living in Amsterdam, collaborating with artists such as Clarence Beckton, Eric Calmes, and Mikhael Paskalev. In 2016, Marcus Wyatt & The ZAR Orchestra won Best Jazz Album at the 22nd South African Music Awards on June 4, 2016 for their work on One Life in the Sun. Wyatt's discography includes albums such as Language 12 (2006), ZAR (2011), and Language 12, Maji Maji in the Land of Milk and Honey (2014), showcasing his contributions to South African jazz.
