Biography

Marco Benevento – born in Livingstone, New Jersey on July 22, 1977 - is a composer, keyboardist / multi-instrumentalist, and producer who has been involved with the jazz and experimental rock scenes in New York since 1999. Apart from his solo work, he has also performed with his musical collaborator Joe Russo in groups such the Benevento/Russo Duo and Joe Russo’s Almost Dead. He has also worked with the group Garage a Trois. After several years of integrating himself into the New York and New Jersey music scenes, Marco Benevento first came to prominence in 2002 as one half of the Benevento/Russo Duo, a stripped‑down yet explosive partnership with drummer Joe Russo. With nothing more than keyboards and drums, the duo built a reputation for shows that felt spontaneous and unrepeatable, leaning heavily on improvisation while maintaining a deep sense of groove. Their debut album Marco Benevento and Joe Russo (2002) was followed by the acclaimed albums Darts (2003), Best Reason to Buy the Sun (2005), Live from Bonnaroo 2005 (2006), and Play Pause Stop (2006). Marco Benevento then began his solo career in 2007 with the album Live at Tonic. After the release of his second solo album, Invisible Baby (2008), he released both the solo album Me Not Me and the album Power Patriot - with his side project Garage a Trois - in 2009. Since then, Marco Benevento has cultivated a catalog that reflects both intimacy and unpredictability. His recordings often balance melodic warmth with abstract textures, favoring mood and momentum over technical display. His solo albums reveal a composer unafraid to let humor, distortion, and vulnerability coexist, while his live performances frequently reimagine studio material in surprising ways. Further releases include a series of singles and EPs alongside the albums Between the Needles and Nightfall (2010), TigerFace (2012), Swift (2014), The Story of Fred Short (2016), Woodstock Sessions (2017), Let It Slide (2019), Benevento (2022), and Barn Burner: Live at Levon’s (2024). In February 2026, Marco Benevento released the single “Frizzante,” a collaboration with Italian singer-songwriter Marianne Mirage.
