Marcella Detroit, born Marcella Levy on June 21, 1952, in Detroit, Michigan, is an American singer and songwriter. She began her musical career in the early 1970s, performing with various bands in her hometown. Her breakthrough came when she joined Bob Seger's tour, contributing backing vocals to his album Back in '72. This led to collaborations with Leon Russell and Eric Clapton, for whom she sang on albums such as There's One in Every Crowd and co-wrote hits like "Lay Down Sally". Detroit released her debut solo album, Marcella, in 1982 under Epic Records. In 1988, she joined Shakespears Sister with Siobhan Fahey, achieving significant chart success with their albums Sacred Heart and Hormonally Yours. The band's single "Stay" reached Number 1 on the UK Singles Chart in 1992. Detroit left Shakespears Sister in 1993 and continued her solo career, releasing several albums including Jewel (1994), Feeler (1996), and Dancing Madly Sideways (2001). She also participated in the ITV series Popstar to Operastar in 2010, finishing third. She followed up with albums The Vehicle (2013), Gray Matterz (2015), and Gold (2021).
