Biography

Revealed in the second half of the 2000s, James Morrison (born James Morrison Catchpole in Rugby, south-east England, on August 13, 1984) immediately established himself as one of the leading velvet voices on the English music scene with the hit "You Give Me Something" (2006), followed two years later by the album Songs for You, Truths for Me. The singer-songwriter's soul-infused soft rock style appealed to a wide audience, and garnered very positive sales results with the hit "You Make It Real" (#7) and the duet "Broken Strings" with Nelly Furtado (ranked #2 in the UK). In 2011, her third album The Awakening went straight to No. 1, adding the track "I Won't Let You Go" (No. 5), plus a new duet with Jessie J on "Up". Its successor, Higher Than Here (2015), reaches No. 7, with the single "Demons" as its banner. James Morrison then went through a difficult period, marked by a thank-you from his label, before returning in 2019 with the aptly-named album You're Stronger Than You Know and the duet "My Love Goes On" with Joss Stone. In 2022, he presented new versions of his greatest hits in the Greatest Hits album, but suffered another ordeal two years later with the suicide of his partner and mother of their two daughters, Gill Catchpole, on January 5, 2024. The resilient singer returned the following year with the album Fight Another Day.
