Biography

Kim Carnes may be most noted for her huge 1981 hit with the Jackie DeShannon/Donna Weiss song Bette Davis Eyes, which topped the US charts for nine weeks - triggering an unlikely friendship between the singer and the veteran actress - and becoming the biggest-selling international record of the year. Yet Carnes was always a lot more than a covers singer, having announced to her parents that she intended to be a top songwriter when she was just three. She was true to her word, too, going on to write a series of country classics, duetting with Kenny Rogers on Don't Fall In Love With A Dreamer, penning Make No Mistake She's Mine for Rogers and Ronnie Milsap and The Heart Won't Lie for Reba McEntire and Vince Gill, while also collaborating with the likes of Tanya Tucker, Suzy Bogguss and Pam Tillis. She never again matched her own success with Bette Davis Eyes, but continued to write, record and perform to a devoted following.
