Biography

Manongo Mujica (born 17 November 1950, in Lima) is a Peruvian composer and percussionist. Born Manuel Antonio Mujica Pinilla, he studied percussion in Vienna and performed with ensembles in London before returning to Lima to join the group The Mad's in 1965. Mujica gained recognition for composing the score for the ballet Flora Tristán and several film projects. His collaborations with artist Rafael Hastings included the films We are not a Family (1973), Peruvian (1978), and the short film series El Incondicionado Desocultamiento (1974). He also composed the score for the film El mito de Inkarri (1977). In 1979, he organized a cycle of musical performances at the Auditorio Miraflores with Arturo Ruiz del Pozo. The recording career included the albums Nocturno (1983), Paisajes sonoros (1984), El sonido de los dioses (2004), and Paracas Ritual (2020), a collaboration with Terje Evensen.
