Biography
Mamoutou Camara, known professionally as Mangala Camara, was a Malian musician and singer born in 1960 in Kéniéba, Mali. He began his musical career at the age of 11 when he joined the Orchestre Régional de Kayes despite familial opposition. In 1985, after being discovered by Salif Keïta, Camara embarked on his first European tour as a member of Keïta's group Les ambassadeurs. The following year, he won the grand prize "découverte" from RFI. Alongside Alain Lecointe, Camara formed the group Donké and released their debut album Paris-Bamako in 1988. He also produced several notable albums including "Complaintes mandingues blues" (1993) and N'Djienalé, a posthumous release from 2013. Camara passed away on September 29, 2010, in Bamako due to illness.
