Biography

Maki Yano (矢野まき), born 29 April 1977 in Japan, is a J‑pop singer who began performing in the late 1990s. After training as a vocalist, she debuted in July 1999 with the single "Early Summer Happenings", marking her entry into the mainstream Japanese pop scene. In 2001 she released the EP たからもの and the album そばのかす, establishing a reputation for acoustic pop with occasional rock and jazz influences. Her next studio album, あいいろ (2003), expanded her fan base, followed by はるか - 遥歌 (2004) and いい風 (2005), each charting within the top 50 of the Oricon Albums Chart. The 2005 album やのまき showcased a more mature sound, and the 2007 release BIRTH continued her presence in the industry. In 2009, なみだうた 〜矢野真紀泣ける生歌(ライブ)ベスト〜 and 本音とは愛よ compiled live performances and new tracks, respectively. Her later singles, 窓 (2007) and 生きること (2014), reflected a shift toward introspective songwriting. Throughout her career, Maki Yano maintained a consistent output, with several albums achieving moderate commercial success and earning her recognition within Japan’s pop‑music landscape.
