Maids of Gravity was an American rock ensemble formed in 1993 in Los Angeles by Ed Ruscha and Jim Putnam. The original lineup included drummer Craig Levitz. The group signed with Vernon Yard Recordings and released the mini-album Strange Channel and an eponymous studio recording in 1995. The track âOnly Dreamingâ reached number 40 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. The ensemble performed on tours with artists including Bush and Matthew Sweet. In late 1995, Putnam left to form Radar Brothers and was replaced by Eugene Goreshter. Produced by John Cale, the album The First Second appeared in 1996. Following further lineup changes involving Brandon Jay, Dean Opseth, and Matt Londi, the group performed sporadically but did not record further material. The ensemble became inactive in 2000. Ed Ruscha later performed under solo aliases including Secret Circuit and Dada Munchamonkey.
