Biography

Adept at crafting dreamy folky melodies and icy, staccato electronica into oddball pop gems, Norwegian producer/songwriter Even Johansen had his songs used on hit television shows like 'The OC' and 'Six Feet Under' and was part of group of talented Nordic artists that emerged in the 2000s. Born in the coastal city of Bergen, he started out in local rock groups Libido and Chocolate Overdose in the late 1990s before recording his debut solo album 'Quiet & Still' in 2000 under his own name. Moving to Lockerbie, Scotland, he recorded follow-up 'On Your Side' and took the name Magnet as a nod to the homeopathic, magnetic tattoo that he used to treat anaemia as a child. The album mixed melancholy love songs with graceful ambient grooves and his cover of Bob Dylan's classic 'Lay Lady Lay' with Irish singer Gemma Hayes became a regular on UK radio and was used in a string of TV shows as well as the movie 'Mr and Mrs Smith' starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. He toured across Europe and the US with Doves, Royksopp and Ed Harcourt and his move to a major label deal with Atlantic Records enabled Johansen to create his most ambitious and lush work to date on album 'The Tourniquet' in 2005. He also recorded music for the Norwegian video game 'Dreamfall: The Longest Journey', but his later albums 'The Simple Life' in 2007 and 'Ferrofluid' in 2011 failed to make the same impact.
