Biography

Mauri Antero Numminen is a Finnish artist born on March 12, 1940, in Somero. In the 1960s, he performed as an avant-garde artist with tracks including âNuoren aviomiehen on syytÃ¤ muistaaâ and âNaiseni kanssa eduskuntatalon puistossaâ. He co-founded the record label EteenpÃ¤in! in 1966. Numminen established the jazz ensemble Uusrahvaanomainen Jatsiorkesteri in 1970. He performed in the 1973 film Herra Huu â Jestapa Jepulis, Penikat Sipuliks and the 1977 television series JÃ¤nikset maailmankartalle. His discography included the album The Tractatus Suite (1989), setting Ludwig Wittgenstein's writings to music, and the children's recording Gommin ja Pommin metsÃ¤karnevaali (1995). He was the subject of the compilation DÃ¤gÃ¤ DÃ¤gÃ¤ Finnwelten (2001). Numminen received honorary doctorates from Ãbo Akademi University and the University of Helsinki. He was elected to the Finnish Music Hall of Fame in 2024.
