Biography

The Colombian singer Luis Posada was born in the city of Cartago, Valle del Cauca in 1962. He came from a poor background and during the early 1970s Posada moved to the bustling city of Medellín in search of a better life. After taking on a variety of jobs he eventually began to find regular work as a singer and during the 1980s turned professional playing in venues in and around the Medellín district. Posada cites the Ecuadorian guitarist Julio Jaramillo as his main influence and this is reflected in some of his material. Hits such as 'Me Tomas y me Dejas', 'El Regreso del Alambrado' and 'Basta con Licor' have established the artist as one of Colombia's most popular performers of traditional Latin American music and in 2019 his service to Colombian music over the four decades of his career was recognised when he was awarded the Simón Bolívar Distinction of Excellence by the Colombian Congress of the Republic.
