Biography

Johan Gabriel González, known professionally as El Charrito Negro, was born on February 15, 1962, in Ceilán, Bugalagrande, Valle del Cauca Department, Colombia. He gained initial recognition at age 16 by winning a contest organized by an emisora in Caicedonia, Valle del Cauca. This led to his first single "Maldito dinero" under the name El Charrito Negro with Gardenia Records in 1988. His breakthrough came with the album Llorando por ella (1990) and the song "El guerrillero", which earned him national recognition. El Charrito Negro has since released over twenty albums, including notable works like Un golpe más (1995), Con el triunfo en las manos (2002), and Marcando la diferencia (2007). Some of his most acclaimed singles include "Loco por amor" (2002) and "Quererte fue un error" (2005). He has collaborated with major labels such as BMG, Warner Music, and Discos Victoria. His achievements include two gold discs, one platinum disc, and the Premio Nuestra Tierra for "Quererte fue un error." Considered one of Colombia's leading figures in popular music, he continued his music journey in the following decades by putting out popular albums such as Dios y Mi Pueblo (2015), Su Dinastía (2017), El Incomparable (2020), and Ayúdame a Olvidarte (2021).
