Biography

Luciano Leocata (September 25, 1915 – June 5, 2012) was an Argentine tango bandoneonist, director, and composer from Buenos Aires. Leocata studied the bandoneón under José Lopresti before performing with the orchestra of Juan Pedro Castillo. He joined the orchestra of José Tinelli and performed in theater productions at the Apolo (1934–1935) and San Martín (1936).Leocata performed with the orchestra of Florindo Sassone for over 15 years and was a member of Alberto Castillo’s orchestra between 1944 and 1954. In 1948, he presented the song “Y volvemos a querernos” on Radio El Mundo. During the 1950s, Leocata composed several songs with poet Abel Aznar, including “Y mientes todavía”, “Y todavía te quiero”, and “Y no te voy a llorar”. He accompanied the singer Héctor Pacheco for four years before forming his own orchestra in 1959. Leocata served as the director of the Museo de SADAIC and died in Buenos Aires.
