Biography

Luis Barrios Rojas, known as Lucho Barrios, and born on April 22, 1934, in Callao, Peru, was a bolero singer. He studied opera at the Escuela Nacional de Ópera de Lima and gained international recognition in 1957 after Edith Barr introduced him to Radio Callao, where he recorded with Smith Records and met Julio Jaramillo. Barrios' career took off in Guayaquil, Ecuador, where he specialized in Peruvian waltzes and boleros. Returning to Peru in 1959, he shifted his focus to boleros, achieving significant success across Latin America with hits like "Marabú" (1957) and "Me engañas mujer" (1957). He signed with Capitol Records in Mexico and EMI in Chile. Lucho Barrios passed away on May 5, 2010.
