Lucha Moreno was born Irma Gloria Ochoa Salinas on April 23, 1939, in Guadalupe, Nuevo León, Mexico, and became known as a ranchera singer and actress whose career began at the end of the 1950s. She entered the public eye in 1957 with the singles âAnoche estuve llorandoâ and âVencida,â and that same year made her screen debut performing in Asesinos, S.A. She stayed active in both music and film through the next decade, appearing in movies such as No soy monedita de oro, El gato, Aquà está tu enamorado, Lupe Balazos, and Escuela para solteras while building a recording catalog that included albums such as Lucha Moreno y Mariachi de Pepe Villa, Acuarelas provincianas, Rancheras de siempre, Ecos de la revolución, and Ãxitos de Lucha Moreno. In 1962 she formed the duo Lucha Moreno y José Juan with her husband, singer José Juan, a partnership that remained part of her career into the 1970s and later produced the album Serenata de amor con Lucha Moreno y José Juan in 1976. Alongside her music work, she later appeared in telenovelas including Quinceañera, Amor en silencio, Amor de nadie, Acapulco, cuerpo y alma, and Te sigo amando. Her later catalog remained visible through releases and reissues such as AlegrÃa... Vida... y Amor, Lucha Moreno, Lucero Aguilar y La Serranita Cantando Sus Rancheras Favoritas, and the posthumous compilation Ãconos Eternos: Lucha Moreno. Lucha Moreno died in Mexico City on April 15, 2026.
