AÃda Cuevas, born on September 24, 1962, in Mexico City, is an iconic Mexican singer and actress celebrated as one of the biggest exponents of Regional Mexican music for her unparalleled contributions to the mariachi genre. Beginning her career at just 11, she gained national attention through live radio in 1975 and released her debut album later that year. Her 1979 collaboration with Armando Manzanero on Cari Cari marked a milestone with the ranchera hit "Te vas para tu casa." AÃda Cuevas reached new heights in 1982 when Juan Gabriel produced her self-titled album, cementing her as "The Voice of Mexico." Over five decades, AÃda Cuevas released 42 albums, sold over 11 million copies, and performed on prestigious stages worldwide, from Madison Square Garden to the Palacio de Bellas Artes. Known for her breathtaking rendition of "El Pastor" and her mastery of falsetto, she is the first and only ranchera artist to win both a Grammy and a Latin Grammy, with accolades for works like De Corazón a Corazón⦠Mariachi Tango (2010) and Arrieros Somos (2017). In 2020, she released AntologÃa de la Música Ranchera, Vol. 1, which featured a duet with Lucha Reyes, followed by AntologÃa de la Música Ranchera, Vol. 2 in 2021. Released in 2024, AÃda Cuevas Vuelve a Cantar a Juan Gabriel honors her late friend and mentor Juan Gabriel with a heartfelt collection of his compositions, solidifying her devotion to preserving Mexicoâs rich musical heritage.
