Los Muñequitos de Matanzas, a Cuban rumba ensemble, was formed on October 9, 1952, in the barrio of La Marina, Matanzas. The group initially performed as Conjunto Guaguancó Matancero and released their first LP in 1956 through Puchito Records. Their breakthrough came with the hit song "Los Muñequitos," which led to a name change. In 1958, Panart Records released two compilations featuring their earlier recordings. The group disbanded in the early 1960s but reformed by the end of the decade. Notable albums include Cantar Maravilloso (1990), Rumba Caliente 88/77 (1992), and Ãyelos de Nuevo (1994). In 1992, they began touring the United States and released their critically acclaimed album Muñequitos Live in New York later on. Los Muñequitos earned a Grammy Award nomination in 2001.
