Biography

Lord Buckley was an American comedian and musician born as Richard Myrle Buckley on 5 April 1906 in Tuolumne, California. He achieved professional recognition for a musical and performance style blending aristocratic persona with hipster slang. He began his career performing on the streets before serving as an emcee for dance marathons in Chicago and conducting USO tours during World War II. His recording career includes the tracks “My Own Railroad” (1951) and “The Nazz” (1952), as well as retellings of “The Gettysburg Address” (1955) and “The Raven” (1955). His discography includes the studio recordings Hipsters, Flipsters and Finger Poppin' Daddies Knock Me Your Lobes (1955) and Way Out Humor (1959). Buckley died on 12 November 1960.
