Biography

Little Mike and The Tornadoes, a blues and rock and roll band from New York City, were formed in 1978 by frontman Mike Markowitz. Influenced by John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, and Little Walter, Markowitz began playing harmonica at age 14 and later took up the piano. The Tornadoes backed notable artists such as Big Walter Horton, Otis Rush, Bo Diddley, Lightnin' Hopkins, and Big Mama Thornton before releasing their debut album Heart Attack in 1990 under Blind Pig Records. Following this, they released several albums, including Payday, Flynn's Place, and Hot Shot. After a hiatus of nearly ten years, The Tornadoes reformed in 2013 and released All the Right Moves. They toured extensively through 2014-2016, releasing live albums such as Live at the St. Augustine Bluzfest with Zora Young, and their most recent studio album How Long? in August 2016.
